Privacy policy
This page is a working draft for the Chickadee public beta. It needs legal review before it is published or relied on. Nothing here is a final commitment.
What this draft covers
Chickadee is a flashcard app that works offline. This draft describes how the current version handles data. It will be rewritten when accounts, sync, payments, analytics or ads are added.
Your decks and study history
- Your decks, cards, recordings, photos and review history are stored on your device only.
- There is no account, and nothing you study is sent to us.
- Backups and exports are files you save yourself; we never see them.
Starter decks
When you browse or add a starter deck, the app downloads the catalog and the deck from our server. Like any web server, it may log your IP address and the time of the request. [To be confirmed: log retention period.]
Ads (free plan)
The free plan shows one small banner on list screens, never while you study, and none in the first three days. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland (detected on your device from its time zone and language; you can change it in Settings → Privacy) we ask first: Accept all, Reject all, or choose ads and analytics separately. If you reject ads, no ads show. Your choices stay on your device and can be changed any time in Settings → Privacy. [To be written with the ad provider: which provider, what it collects.]
Purchases
[To be written when Premium can be bought: payment processor and what it receives.]
Children
When you first open the app we ask for your year of birth. Only the result (13 or older, or under 13) is kept, on your device; the year itself isn’t saved and nothing is sent to us. If you are under 13, or don’t say, the app shows no ads and nothing is personalized. [To be reviewed: COPPA and age requirements.]
